Look at the receiver shape, handguard, stock and overall proportions. A familiar name can cover several lengths and internal configurations, so compare the exact version rather than the name alone.
Choose a conventional M4A1 carbine, a rail-equipped M4 RIS or a longer M16 profile. Current listings include M16A1, A2, A3 and A4 builds, as well as XM177 and XM16E1 styles. The M733 Commando adds a short, retro AR-style carbine with a fixed carry handle and retractable stock.

Compare nylon and Value buildsCheck the receiver, handguard, outer barrel and controls individually. A metal rifle can still have a polymer grip or stock. Price differences also reflect the gearbox, motor, gears and compression parts, not just the outside finish.

Discuss a workshop buildElectric or gas? An AEG uses a rechargeable battery and usually offers more magazine capacity for regular field use. A gas blowback rifle focuses on recoil feedback and a more mechanical operating experience. Pick the experience you want before comparing otherwise similar-looking models.
Try the rifle with the stock adjusted to a comfortable position. Check where your support hand sits and whether the handguard has space for the attachments you want. Shorter is not automatically better, and a longer barrel does not by itself guarantee more range.
An electric rifle needs a compatible battery, charger and hydrated gel balls; the battery and charger are reusable. A gas rifle needs suitable green gas and gels. Check the included magazine and package contents. A speed loader is optional for either setup.
