Electric rifle buying guide

Choosing an electric gel blaster rifle

An AEG uses a rechargeable battery to drive a motor and gearbox. It is the easiest system for most people to start with, and it also gives experienced players the broadest choice of magazines, repair parts and performance upgrades.

Why choose an AEG?

Easy to start and practical for field play

Charge the battery, load hydrated gels and the rifle is ready to use. Many AEG rifle magazines hold around 200 gels, which is more practical for regular field play than the smaller magazines used by most gas blowback rifles.

The battery and charger can be reused. Gel balls are the main day-to-day consumable.

More room to repair and upgrade

Electric rifles have the broadest parts support in the Australian gel blaster market. On common platforms, the workshop has more options for motors, gears, compression parts, electronics and trigger control.

That makes an AEG suitable as a first rifle and as a base for a higher-performance build later.

Platform note: most M4 / AR15 and 416 AEGs in the Australian market use a Version 2 gearbox. Larger 417 and SR25 / AR10 rifles commonly use a V2.5-style system, while AK, ACX and other platforms can use different or proprietary arrangements. Check the exact model before ordering internal parts.

Choose the rifle, not just the gearbox

Start with the shape and weight you want, then look at construction, battery space, magazine format and the work you may want done later.

M4 / AR15 and 416

The broadest selection of lengths, handguards and external builds, backed by a mature V2 parts and upgrade system.

Best parts and upgrade support

417 and SR25 / AR10

Larger receivers and magazines create a heavier rifle or DMR-style profile. Magazine and external-part fit is platform-specific.

Larger rifle and DMR styling

AK

AK models use a different receiver, control layout and magazine shape. Battery location and internal configuration vary by model.

Distinct layout and handling

ACX and compact platforms

Modern compact rifles suit customers who want less front-end length or a different external format. Check proprietary parts before buying upgrades.

Shorter, modern configurations

Entry level, full metal or Cyber Custom?

Full-metal rifles

Our full-metal range uses metal receivers, handguards, triggers and outer barrels together with metal gearbox components. These models generally offer a more solid feel, better durability and stronger performance potential.

Cyber Custom builds

Cyber Custom can work on trajectory, response, muzzle velocity, rate of fire and durability, then finish the external setup with compatible optics, lights, foregrips and other attachments.

Match the battery, magazine and gels

Battery and charger

Match the battery connector, voltage and physical size to the exact rifle. Tamiya and Deans are common connectors. Many chargers can be reused, but the charger must support the battery chemistry, voltage and cell count.

Magazine fit

A magazine that looks correct may still have a different feed position, electrical contact or receiver fit. Send us the manufacturer and exact model, or bring the rifle to the showroom so we can test it.

Gel balls

Most gel balls work with common AEGs. For a higher-FPS setup, we recommend hard gels that hold their shape during feeding and firing. Every product in our gel ball range is selected as a high-quality hard gel.

Electric gel blaster questions

What does AEG mean on a gel blaster?

AEG means automatic electric gun. A rechargeable battery powers a motor and gearbox, which compresses the spring and cycles the rifle. Most AEG rifles offer semi-automatic and automatic fire modes, although the exact controls depend on the model.

Is an electric gel blaster rifle a good first choice?

Yes. An AEG is usually easier to start with than a gas blowback rifle, magazines normally hold more gels, and replacement or upgrade parts are easier to find. Choose a size and weight you can handle comfortably, then confirm the correct battery and magazine.

Do all electric gel blaster rifles use a V2 gearbox?

No. V2 is common in M4 / AR15 and 416 AEGs, but larger 417 and SR25 / AR10 rifles often use V2.5-style systems. AK, ACX and other platforms can use different or proprietary layouts. Match internal parts to the manufacturer and exact model.

Which battery does my AEG need?

Check the connector, voltage, battery chemistry and the space available inside the rifle. Tamiya and Deans are common, but they are not interchangeable without the correct adaptor or wiring. Follow the product specification rather than choosing a battery by rifle appearance.

Will any AEG magazine fit my rifle?

No. Fit can change between platforms, manufacturers and models. The feed position and electrical contacts also need to line up. Send us the exact rifle model before ordering, or bring it into our Arundel showroom so we can check a magazine with it.

Which gel balls should I use in an electric rifle?

Most common gel balls work in an AEG, but higher-FPS rifles generally feed and shoot more consistently with hard gels. CyberTrigger's gel ball range is selected for high-quality hard gels suitable for common gel blaster setups.

What else do I need to run an AEG?

An AEG is usually supplied with the rifle and one magazine, but always check the individual listing. You will also need a matching battery and charger and hydrated gel balls. The battery and charger can be reused; recharge the battery when needed and prepare fresh gels as required. A speed loader is optional, but makes loading much easier.

Can Cyber Custom upgrade an electric gel blaster?

Yes. Depending on the rifle and the result you want, Cyber Custom can fit and tune a hop-up, work on muzzle velocity or rate of fire, improve response with a brushless motor or MOSFET, and replace internal parts for better consistency and durability. We can also build the external setup with compatible red dots, scopes, lights and foregrips.
