Gas pistol buying guide

Choosing a gas blowback gel blaster pistol

A gas blowback (GBB) gel blaster pistol uses gas to fire a gel ball and cycle its slide. It delivers a realistic recoil experience with every shot. Suitable gas and hydrated gel balls are the essential consumables.

Range checked on 10 October 2026. The four platform families are G-Series, 1911, Hi-Capa / 2011 and Canik; TTI styles appear across G-Series and 2011. Check the listings above for current stock and prices.

What matters when comparing GBB pistols?

Start with the grip and controls. Then look at what the extra money buys: the slide and frame construction, machining, fitted features and the model you actually want.

Grip, size and controls

A compact grip and a full-size grip feel different, even when the pistols share a family name. Try the trigger reach, magazine release and slide controls. Our QLD physical shop lets you compare the models we have in local stock.

Compare G-Series models

Slide and frame materials

A metal slide does not mean a full-metal pistol. The E&C G-Series 17 G5 has an aluminium slide and polymer grip; the Cybergun Colt 1911 lists a metal frame and slide with polymer grip panels. Compare the actual construction and weight you prefer.

Compare 1911 builds

Firing modes and optic mounting

Some models are semi-auto only; others offer semi and full auto. MOS and optic-ready versions add another choice if you want a red dot. Check the fitted controls, optic footprint and included plates rather than buying on the model name alone.

What you need alongside the pistol

Suitable gas

We recommend 12KG Green Gas as our standard choice for the gas blowback pistols we stock. Using suitable gas pressure helps avoid unnecessary stress on internal components and supports long-term reliability. Gas selection should also suit the model and ambient temperature.

Gas and consumables

Hydrated gel balls

You will need properly prepared gel balls. CyberTrigger selects high-quality hard gels, which we recommend for higher-FPS blasters. Follow the gel manufacturer's hydration instructions and check the pistol's specified gel size.

Browse hard gel balls

A speed loader if you want one

A speed loader is optional and can make filling a compatible magazine easier. A spare magazine is another useful addition, but neither replaces the gas and gels needed to run the pistol. Check the package contents so you know what to add.

Browse speed loaders

For example, the E&C G-Series 17 G5 package lists the pistol, one magazine and two backstraps. Its listing recommends adding green gas and gel balls separately. Other models may include different items.

Magazines, sights and workshop help

Get the magazine and sight fit right

Send us the manufacturer, model and generation, or bring the pistol to our QLD physical shop. We can help choose a compatible spare magazine and check an optic-ready setup. A G-Series, 1911 or Hi-Capa label alone is not enough to confirm every part.

Servicing and repairs

Our Cyber Custom workshop supports the gas pistols we carry with assessment, servicing, repairs and compatible upgrades. If yours has a fault, send us the exact model and a description or video of the issue. We can discuss the work and parts needed before you bring it in.

Gas gel blaster pistol questions

Which gas gel blaster pistol is best for me?

Choose by grip, external style, construction, budget and the features you want. Our current public gas-pistol listings range from A$299 to A$599. Compare the available local stock at our QLD physical shop; there is no single model that suits every hand or setup.

What does GBB mean?

GBB means gas blowback. Gas fires the gel ball and cycles the slide, giving you realistic recoil feedback and a more lifelike shooting experience. This differs from a manual spring pistol, which needs cocking for each shot. GBB describes the operating system, not the firing mode or external material.

What else do I need to run a gas pistol?

You need the gas recommended for the exact pistol and hydrated gel balls. Check whether these are included with your model. A speed loader is optional and can make loading easier. A spare magazine is optional too; gas needs replenishing as you use it.

Can I use 12kg Green Gas in my pistol?

We recommend 12KG Green Gas as our standard choice for the gas blowback pistols we stock. Using suitable gas pressure helps avoid unnecessary stress on internal components and supports long-term reliability. Gas selection should also suit the model and ambient temperature. Browse our gas and consumables range or contact the team for help with your setup.

Do gas blowback pistols need a battery or charger?

The GBB pistols in this collection use gas rather than a battery to fire and cycle the slide. You do not need a battery or charger to operate them. If you add a powered red dot or another electronic accessory, that accessory has its own power requirements.

Are all GBB gel blaster pistols full auto?

No. Gas blowback and firing mode are separate features. Our E&C G-Series 17 G5 is listed as semi-auto, while the E&C G-Series 18C and EMG TTI Pit Viper listings specify both semi-auto and full-auto selection. Check the individual product's firing modes rather than assuming every GBB pistol offers full auto.

How do I choose a spare gas pistol magazine?

Use the exact pistol's manufacturer and model to check fit. Magazine dimensions and the gas and feeding interfaces need to suit the pistol. Send us those details or bring it to our QLD physical shop, and we can help choose a compatible pistol magazine.

Can I fit a red dot to a gas pistol?

Some pistols have an optic-ready or MOS slide; others do not. The sight's footprint, adapter plate and mounting hardware must match your model. Check what the pistol includes, then ask us to match a pistol sight if you are unsure.

Can Cyber Custom service or upgrade my GBB pistol?

Yes. Our Cyber Custom workshop provides assessment, servicing, repairs and compatible upgrades for the models we support. We can also help you choose a compatible red dot sight and torch for your pistol. Tell us what pistol you have, any fault it has and what you want to change. Available work depends on its condition and suitable parts.
